Turning Your Bathroom into a Spa Retreat on a Budget

Even if your bathroom is small, cramped and dreary you can still turn it into a relaxing spa-like experience without breaking the bank. There is no need to remodel and upgrade to all the latest bathroom fixtures in order to have a relaxing spa experience right in your own bathroom.

Here are some tips on how to turn even the most boring bathroom into a relaxing retreat on a budget.

The first thing you will want to do to create your bathroom spa is clean! It is hard to relax and unwind in a space that is filled with clutter. Start by clearing off all your surfaces and tucking things away to be stored instead of leaving them out in plain sight.

If necessary invest in some small storage bins or creative behind-the-door bathroom storage systems to be able to tuck away clutter.

Once everything is put away you have a nice fresh palette to start with. Begin by taking a look at your wall color. Close your eyes and try to imagine the most soothing color you can think of, and then go buy a quart of paint and paint the walls that color.

If painting your walls isn’t an option buy an inexpensive shower curtain and a couple of thick, fluffy towels in the soothing color you imagined instead. If you are going to splurge on anything for your bathroom spa I would suggest spending extra on the towels. A nice, luxurious towel can make you feel like a queen.

Next, buy yourself a thick, fluffy bathrobe. A plush, white terrycloth robe can go a long ways toward making you feel like you are at luxury spa being pampered.

Now you need to work on the lighting. Most bathroom lighting is terrible and is usually either far too bright, or far too dingy to look nice. You may want to try getting a dimmer switch for your bathroom lights to tone them down a little when you want to relax.

Alternatively, buy a bunch of scented candles to light when you are taking a bath for a truly relaxing experience. Small scented candles are relatively inexpensive so feel free to go overboard and get more than you think you would need. The more candles you have the more luxurious the experience can feel.

Buy some bath salts or bubble bath to make your bath time more relaxing. Be sure to pick a scent that you love and that makes you feel like you are treating yourself. You can also consider getting aromatherapy oils to add to your bath. Do some research on which oils are right for inducing the mood that you want and then just add a few drops to the tub.

Finally, treat yourself to a bath pillow. Bathtubs can be uncomfortable if your head is cocked to one side and balanced on cold, hard porcelain. Bathtub pillows can help support your head and give it extra cushioning so you can better relax and escape from the world for a few minutes.

Most importantly, pick up anything you think would make your feel pampered. You don’t have to spend a lot of money to create a room where you can relax and indulge yourself, and the reward can be that you are more relaxed, refreshed and able to cope with life.
