Finding a Great Hairstyle with Bangs

Some people cringe at the thought of hairstyles with bangs because they get an image in their minds of some of the horrible hairstyles of bygone decades with poofy bangs coated in hairspray.

Modern haircuts with bangs are making a big comeback, though, and the good news is that bangs are kept in a soft natural style and not ratted up or teased.

Hairstyles with bangs look great on a number of different people and compliment any of the face shapes.

Bangs are great for creating a frame for your face, and when cut correctly they can either draw the eye to your favorite feature or help detract attention from one of your features that you aren’t too fond of. For instance, if you have a long forehead bangs can help to hide it.

Cut at the right length, bangs can also help to draw attention to beautiful eyes. When it comes to bangs it is all about the cut and style.

Now, admittedly, getting a hairstyle with bangs can be a little intimidating - especially if you are used to having long hair around your face. After all, bangs take a long time to grow out and they usually have to go through an awkward phase where they are difficult to do much with.

However, by considering your face shape before getting your bangs cut you can lessen the likelihood that you will hate them and probably will come out with a hairstyle that you love!

As I’ve mentioned, the most important consideration when getting bangs is your face shape. You will need to determine whether your face is round, oval, heart shaped, square or rectangle since each face shape looks best with a certain style of bang. Your stylist at your salon should be able to advise you both on what your face shape is and what style of bang will look best on you.

If you prefer to determine your face shape yourself you can stand in front of a mirror and trace around your face on the mirror using an old eyeliner pencil. That should give you an outline of your face and help you determine what the overall shape is.

Oval faces can generally get away with any style of bang since they are evenly balanced. Rectangular faces do best with pretty much any style of bang except bangs that are blunt cut. Blunt cut bangs will make your face look too angular. Round faces typically should stay away from bangs since they can make your face look wider.

If you have a round face and are set on getting bangs try a light half bang that only hangs over part of your face and try to keep them up off your face. Square faces should adhere to the same rules and round faces when it comes to bangs.

If you have a heart shaped face light, wispy bangs will look good on you. You should also avoid blunt cut bangs since they can visually increase the width of your forehead area which is already wider than your jaw and can make you look unbalanced.

No matter what your face shape your stylist should be able to help you choose the right bangs for your face. Go ahead and take the leap! After all, it’s only hair, right?
