How to Remove Hair Dye from Skin

So you got a little sloppy with your hair dye and now you’re sitting there with your forehead and ears dyed the same lovely shade as your hair wondering how you are ever going to be able to show your face at work or school tomorrow. Sound familiar? If so, don’t worry. There are some simple ways that you can remove hair dye from your skin so you don’t have to hide out at home until it wears off.

Prevention is the Best Solution

Now, chances are you aren’t reading this article just for the pleasure of it so it is probably too late to take the prevention approach by keeping hair dye off your skin in the first place. However, if you haven’t dyed your hair yet the best way to keep from getting stains on your skin is to take preventative measures to stop them before they even start.

Before you dye your hair, wipe vaseline on your forehead, ears, neck or any other body part that may come in contact with the hair dye. The vaseline will form a barrier that protects your skin from the dye and will make it easy to wash any slopped dye off immediately in the shower.

Too late for prevention? Read on to get tips on getting the dye off your skin.

Opt for a Commercial Product

There are several products on the market designed specifically to remove hair dye from skin. These can be a great solution because they are safe to apply to your skin and they really work. Check out your local beauty supply shop or the hair dye aisle at your local drugstore. If you are too embarrassed to head out with your dyed face, see if a friend or loved one would be willing to go shop for you. Otherwise, there are several home solutions you can try, too.

Use Your Leftover Dye

As strange as it sounds, rubbing a little bit of leftover dye onto the stains should lift them right off. Just use caution and don’t leave the dye on your skin too long or you could make the problem worse. Rinse right away with plenty of warm, clear water. Was the area immediately with a gentle soap.

Try a Home Remedy

There are several items that you probably already have laying around your house that might help with getting the dye off your skin. Try rubbing it with vaseline, baby oil or makeup remover. Some people have success with these products, and although it might take a good bit of rubbing eventually the stains should disappear.

You can also try using toothpaste. It is mildly abrasive but still safe to apply to your skin. Just apply toothpaste to the stain and rub gently until it is gone.

Hopefully these tips will have you looking like your gorgeous self again in no time! And next time you dye your hair opt for prevention instead.
