Tips for Painting a Dining Room

Your dining room is one of the best rooms in your home because it is a place where you and your friends or family can gather over a delicious meal and create memories.

Painting your dining room is a great way to update the look without spending a fortune to do it.

There are some things you should keep in mind when painting a dining room that can help you get beautiful results that you can be proud of. Here are some tips for painting a dining room.

When it comes to choosing a color for a dining room there are a few general rules that you should stick with. The color blue has been shown to decrease people’s appetites, so it is generally not a good color to choose for a dining room.

Red, on the other hand, has been shown to make people hungrier which is why you often see red dining rooms. If bright red is too much for you consider painting your dining room in a deep, muted shade of red that will still stimulate people to want to eat but won’t be overpowering.

If you have a small dining room you might want to think about choosing a lighter color for it since lighter colors tend to make a room feel larger. Neutrals are always a good choice in any room in your home and work well in most dining rooms.

Along with paint color you will need to choose the paint finish for your walls. Dining rooms typically do well with satin, eggshell or semi-gloss paint. If your walls are not smooth you may want to consider satin or eggshell since it will help to hide any flaws in the wall itself.

You may also want to pick a second color of paint to paint the trim in the dining room. Choose a color that compliments the color you have chosen for the walls.

While you are buying your paint you should also pick up some painter’s tape, paint brushes and rollers.

After you have all your supplies you are ready to get started painting. Begin by removing any furniture from the room and taking down anything that is hanging on the walls.

Patch any holes in the walls left from nails or tacks and repair any damage so you have a nice, even painting surface.

Also take down any electrical outlet or light switch covers to avoid having to paint around them. You should also cover your floor with a drop cloth to avoid getting any paint on it.

Tape off the edges of the room to create a nice even line between the wall and the trim. Start by using a paint brush to paint the edges of your walls, leaving the centers unpainted for now.

When you are done with the edges, go back with a paint roller and paint the large open area in the center of the wall.

Allow the paint to dry and apply a second coat if necessary. Once the paint is completely dry you can move your furniture back into the room and reinstall any outlet or light switch covers.
