Tips for Throwing a Back to School Party
Summer is winding down and its approaching time to go back to school. What better way to get your kids ready to head back than with a fun back to school party? Having a back to school party is a great way to get kids reconnected with their friends before hitting the classroom and can be a whole lot of fun.
Here are some tips for throwing a back to school party to get you started.
Planning the Food
Food for a back to school party can be fairly simple…after all, most kids prefer easy snacks anyway. Try ordering some pizza and having chips, crackers and candy on hand. Or, if you prefer have each person who is coming bring something and make a pot luck style buffet where kids can grab food.
Finger foods are a good choice and will help to keep the party mess to a minimum. Don’t forget paper plates and utensils! For drinks opt for something easy and relatively mess-free like juice boxes.
Planning the Favors
You don’t have to have party favors at your party, but they can really help to set the mood. You can buy inexpensive pencil boxes and fill them with some fun back to school goodies like crayons, pencils, erasers, glitter pens or other cool school gear. Or, if you prefer you can go with simple, traditional party favors. Chances are your guests won’t be too picky!
Planning the Games & Entertainment
Plan some fun games for the kids to play. Think about getting a pinata for a fun activity. Or stick with classic games like potato sack races, tag or hide and seek. Kids are generally pretty good at entertaining themselves so don’t stress yourself out too much about not having the right games planned.
Planning the Decorations
Decorations for a back to school party can be a lot of fun. Try decorating the party in school colors and hanging a big “welcome back” sign at your entry. Balloons and streamers go a long way toward setting a party atmosphere.
Your back to school party doesn’t have to be too eleborate to be fun. It’s just a nice way for kids to get back in touch with their friends and celebrate the end of the summer before hitting the books again.
