Ways to Save Money on Valentine’s Roses
One of the most classic and timeless gifts to give on Valentine’s day is a beautiful bouquet of roses. The problem is that a dozen roses - or even a few - can be fairly expensive and if you are on a tight budget you might find that they are out of your price range.
Don’t worry - with a little bit of work, some smart shopping and some creativity you can still get beautiful roses for Valentine’s day even if you are on a tight budget. Here are several ways that you can save money on Valentine’s roses.
1. Buy Individual Flowers & Arrange Them Yourself
Having roses arranged into a bouquet for you can really increase the cost. A cheaper alternative is to buy individual flowers and then cut and arrange them yourself. The good thing about roses is that they look beautiful in a simple bouquet so you don’t have to be a flower arranging expert to make them look great.
2. Use an Old Vase or Skip the Vase Completely
If you buy your own flowers and arrange them yourself you can save a lot of money by re-using an old vase. If you don’t have any vases laying around check your local thrift store. You can often find beautiful vases for under $1.00.
If you can’t find a vase and don’t want to buy one you can also choose to arrange the flowers without a vase into a simple but elegant bouquet. Look for a lovely ribbon to tie around their base to give a more polished and professional look to the arrangement. Remember that the flowers are gorgeous on their own so you don’t need to go over the top trying to dress them up. Sometime simplicity is more beautiful anyway.
3. Look for Sales, Coupons or Specials
Many florists run special sales on roses for Valentine’s day. Check your local paper or a few online florists (try JRROSES.com for wholesale flowers and Valentine’s specials plus DIY arranging instructions ) to see what each has to offer and to compare prices.
4. Buy Roses from the Grocery Store
The roses that are carried by your local grocer are often just as nice as the ones at a florist but can cost a whole lot less. Check with the floral department at your favorite grocery store to see what they have in stock and if they are running any holiday specials.
5. Give a Single Flower
Sometimes a single rose can be more significant and meaningful than a huge bouquet. Try making it more special with a lovely card or poem to create a romantic gift.
Remember that the special someone in your life loves you for you and not for the things that you buy for them. The flowers themselves don’t matter to them nearly as much as the thought that you put into getting them.
